Miss Albania was keeping the spirits high for the Albanian community in lockdown when she recorded her fourth win at Flemington on Saturday. After being defeated by a strong head breeze first up, the consistent mare tackled open company and straight racing for the first time in the VRC Member Kate Crosby Sprint over 1100m.
Despite not being mounting yard analyst Jane Ivil’s top pick, she reported “She’s a nice mare, she does everything right in the yard and I thought she had a bit of improvement to come at Caulfield when she stepped out the other day, she strips fitter today”.
With a benefit of having a run under her belt, the now five-year-old mare jumped okay and led up the outside group down the Flemington straight. Jockey Liam Riordan was able to ride the speed beautifully and when asked for an effort his mount was able to extend again to beat leader of the inside group Oxley Road by three quarters of a length.
Enver mentioned post race “She’s a tough mare and really came on after her first up run. A good ride by Liam”.
A great way to kick off the 21/22 season with a win at HQ, hopefully many more to come this season. Congratulations to owner John Williams and connections on yet another win with this girl. We look forward to seeing what level she can get to in the spring.
