Enver Jusufovic is freshening his promising mare Amortentia for a summer racing campaign.
The 4YO mare, a daughter of Wanted, has pulled up well from her luckless fourth behind Zagaya at Sale on September 29.
“I thought she’d win that race, but (jockey) Damien Oliver was forced to take an inside run in the straight and it wasn’t the place to be. She did well to finish as close as she did to be beaten less than a length,” Jusufovic said.
Amortentia has had a tremendous campaign of five starts for two wins, a second, third (at Sandown) and her Sale fourth.
“She a late maturer that keeps improving. She’s had a good campaign and I think a little freshen while she’s at the top of her game will see her being able to race through the summer while the good ones are spelling,” he said.
“We have recently moved all our horses in to our new stable on the Cranbourne training centre and we will keep Amortentia in the stable while she acclimatizes to her new surroundings.”
Jusufovic trainer Amortentia’s mother, Mixxer, who he believes has the makings of a very good broodmare.
“Mixxer won only two races, but she was city class and Amortentia reminds me a lot of her,” Jusufovic said.
“We have a Big Brown filly, a 3YO, in the stable now, who is a big, strong filly like Mixxer and Amortentia and she is showing a good amount of ability.”
