Leading into the race, Enver was pretty confident that this gelded son of Polanski would run well. Gennady had been working consistently at home and in his lead up trials with jockey Mick Dee getting to know the horse well. The team have noticed he has come back in a completely different horse since his gelding operation, a bright and happy horse with his mind on the job.

Along with two stablemates, Gennady made the trip over to Sale Racecourse where he competed in the last race of the day, the BenchMark 64 for 3-year-olds and up over 1205m. It was a very open race but Enver was sure with the right run the 5-year-old carrying the top weight of 61.5kg would be hard to beat.

He marched into the mounting yard last but quickly became Nic Ashman’s Pick Of The Yard stating “Gennady used to get up on his toes but is now more relaxed in the yard. He looks fantastic”.

Enver reported pre race “It’s quite a competitive race. I really can’t fault him though, he’s certainly a top three chance”.

With Dee piloting, they jumped fairly from barrier 5 in a field of 8. There was a genuine tempo which allowed the bay gelding to work through his paces out the back without using up too much energy. Although, he got a bit keen in the middle stages but soon settled under the care of Dee who balanced him around the home bend and set him up to flash home beating I’m Cheeky and starting favourite Peskijen.

“I’ve had to get to know the horse since he’s been in my system. I was quite impressed, the speed looked quite genuine. Did I know he could do that? I was hoping!” Enver stated in the post race interview.

Although this was his fourth win overall, this win was a first since having the horse in Enver’s care with his last win also being at Sale in October 2019. Gennady continues his good fresh record bringing his winnings to over $110,000 and proved to the team that he is in for a great preparation.

Congratulations to the winning connections on the win and to our team at the stables for making it possible!
